Bingsu records your screen, your camera and your calls on your computer, and lets AI agents record their own work. Each task below copies as a prompt, so your agent can do it for you.

Install Bingsu

  1. Download Bingsu for Mac. It needs macOS 26 Tahoe or later.
  2. Open Bingsu.dmg from your Downloads folder and drag Bingsu to Applications.
  3. Open Bingsu. It lives in the menu bar, not the Dock.

With Homebrew instead:

brew install --cask bingsu

To check the file before you open it, compare its SHA-256 with the one on the download page:

shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Bingsu.dmg

On Windows:

  1. Download Bingsu for Windows. It needs Windows 10 (version 2004) or later.
  2. Open Bingsu.msix from your Downloads folder and choose Install.
  3. Open Bingsu from the Start menu.

On Linux:

  1. Download Bingsu for Linux. It needs GNOME or KDE on Wayland with PipeWire; X11 works too.
  2. Make the file runnable and open it:
chmod +x ~/Downloads/Bingsu.AppImage && ~/Downloads/Bingsu.AppImage

Allow screen recording

macOS asks once, the first time you record. Turn Bingsu on in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording, then reopen Bingsu.

The camera and the microphone are separate questions. macOS asks for each only when you first use it. Bingsu never turns either on by itself.

Record your screen

  1. Click the Bingsu icon in the menu bar, or press ⌥⇧⌘R from anywhere.
  2. Pick what to record: a screen, a window, an app or an area.
  3. Press Record. Press Stop and Save when you are done.

Every file is checked after it is saved: its length, its picture, its sound tracks, silence, and whether a window closed. A problem shows as a warning on the recording.

Files go to ~/Movies/Bingsu. Change the folder in Settings.

Pick a window, an app or an area

  • A window keeps recording when other windows cover it, and takes only that app’s sound.
  • An app records all of its windows.
  • An area records a fixed part of a screen. Drag to draw it.
  • A screen records everything on that display.

A minimized window sends no picture. The recording repeats its last frame until you bring the window back.

Sound and microphones

A window or app recording takes that app’s sound and nothing else. A screen recording takes the Mac’s sound.

Add any number of microphones. Each shows a live level, gets its own track in the file, and goes into one mixed track that every player plays. If a microphone is unplugged, its track stays silent until you plug it back in, and the recording goes on.

Your camera and call guests

Choose a camera in the panel’s Camera row. It sits over your recording as a bubble, and it is also saved as its own video track.

  • Drag the bubble anywhere. Drag its corner to resize it.
  • Make it a circle, a rounded square or wide, and mirror it from its toolbar.
  • Right-click it to turn the camera off or hide it.

In Zoom, Meet, Teams, FaceTime, Slack, Discord, Webex or WhatsApp, Bingsu finds the people in the call window and adds each as a bubble, up to five faces. It can follow whoever speaks, or one person. Each guest’s voice comes from the call app on its own track. Finding faces runs on your Mac; nothing about a face leaves it or is kept.

Pause, stop and the lock screen

  • Pause and resume leave no gap in the file.
  • Give a recording a length and it stops on the exact second.
  • When the screen locks, Bingsu pauses and goes on when you sign back in. Change this in Settings.
  • If the Mac crashes, Bingsu writes files in two-second pieces and recovers the half-written file the next time it opens.

Trim, cut and crop

Open a recording in the editor.

  1. Drag the handles to trim the start and the end.
  2. To cut a part out, mark it with I and O, then press X. ⌘Z undoes.
  3. Crop to 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:3.
  4. Save a copy as HEVC, H.264, ProRes, a GIF or sound only.

The original is never changed. Each edit saves a new file next to it, named “(edited)”, “(1080p)” and so on.

Zoom and backgrounds

Focus and Frame are added when you save a copy, never baked into the original.

  • Focus zooms in smoothly where you click and type and smooths the pointer. Every zoom shows on the timeline, where you can move, change or remove it.
  • Frame puts a window or area on a background, with padding, rounded corners and a shadow.

Transcript, captions and chapters

Bingsu writes a transcript with times, using Apple’s on-device speech model. Nothing is uploaded and nothing costs credits. On a Mac with Apple Intelligence it also writes a title, a short summary and chapters.

  • Show captions on a share page, or burn them into a copy of the video.
  • Cut the video by deleting words in the transcript.
  • Every language your Mac supports works. macOS downloads a language’s model the first time it is used.

Turn this off in Settings, General, “Understand recordings”.

Share a page

Bingsu turns a recording into a folder that is a whole website: a player, the title, chapters, the transcript and captions. You publish it where you already host sites. We never see the page, its link or its viewers.

Host Publish the folder with
Cloudflare Pages npx wrangler pages deploy <folder> --project-name <name>
Vercel npx vercel deploy <folder> --prod --yes
Netlify npx netlify-cli deploy --dir <folder> --prod
GitHub Pages npx gh-pages --add -d <folder> -e <name>
ChatGPT Sites Ask Codex in the ChatGPT app to publish the folder

Preview the page on your Mac before you publish. The page offers no download of the video unless you turn it on. Anyone with the address can watch it, so keep the address to the people it is for.

Connect an AI agent

Copy the connect prompt from bingsustudio.com/agents into your agent app: ChatGPT for Mac, Claude, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build and others. It adds Bingsu as a local MCP server, checks that it works and tells you what it can do. The same page lists the steps for each app by hand.

The first time an agent asks to record, Bingsu asks you in its own window. Settings, Agents lists every agent you allowed, with Revoke.

Ask an agent to record

Ask in your own words. For example:

  • “Record this window while you run the tests, with sound off. When you are done, stop, check the file and tell me where it is.”
  • “Record the Settings window for 20 seconds, then make a share page from it and give me the folder.”
  • “Record my browser for 30 seconds at 60 fps, then save a GIF copy under 10 MB.”

An agent checks the picture first with bingsu_screenshot, records with bingsu_start, and trusts a file only when its check says ok. Its recording shows in your menu bar with its name, and you can stop it at any time.

What an agent can do

Tool What it does
bingsu_sources Lists displays, windows, apps, microphones and cameras, with ids
bingsu_screenshot The exact picture a recording of a source would show
bingsu_start Records a source; with seconds and wait, returns the saved, checked file
bingsu_wait, bingsu_stop, bingsu_pause Waits for, stops or pauses the agent’s own recording
bingsu_status What is recording, room for more, free disk space
bingsu_recordings, bingsu_verify Recent recordings and their checks; checks a file again
bingsu_export A trimmed, cut, cropped or converted copy; never overwrites
bingsu_understand Transcript, title, summary and chapters, made on the Mac
bingsu_share_page A website folder for a recording, ready to publish
bingsu_mark, bingsu_script, bingsu_presenter Named steps, a narration script, and a voice or presenter clip

Every error has a stable error code, a message and a fix.

Let several agents record at once

  • Each agent records, stops and pauses only its own recordings. You see all of them in the menu bar and can stop any.
  • An agent’s window and app recordings take that app’s sound without playing it on your speakers.
  • Agents drive browsers with their own tools, never your pointer or keyboard.
  • Bingsu never lowers quality to fit one more recording. When the encoders are full, an agent hears busy before it starts, or waits in line with queue: true.
  • An agent that needs a whole screen can make its own virtual display with bingsu display add.

Camera and microphones for agents

Agents can’t use the camera or microphones until you turn on “Can use the camera and microphones” in Settings, Agents. It is off at first. Without it, an agent that asks for one gets devices_off, and a recording never turns one on by itself.

Use the command line

The bingsu command does what the MCP tools do, with the same JSON answers.

bingsu record "Safari" --for 30s --json
bingsu edit <id> --start 3.5 --end 1:20 --format gif --max-mb 10
bingsu share-page <id> --title "Design review, new onboarding"

Exit code 3 means the file was saved but its check found a problem. Set BINGSU_SESSION to a value unique to your script, so its recordings stay its own.

Updates

Bingsu checks for updates once a day by downloading a small file that lists the latest version. The request tells the server your version and nothing else. Each update is signed, and Bingsu installs only an update whose signature matches. Turn the check off in Settings. With Homebrew, run brew upgrade.

Privacy

Recordings, transcripts and settings stay on your Mac. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry. An agent you connect sees what Bingsu returns to it, such as file paths, screenshots and transcripts, and its app may send that to its own servers under its own terms. Read the privacy policy.

Fix a problem

Error What to do
permission Allow Bingsu in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording
sound_permission Allow it when macOS asks, or record with sound off
device_permission Allow the camera or microphone in System Settings, Privacy & Security
devices_off Turn on “Can use the camera and microphones” in Settings, Agents
agents_off Turn scripts and agents back on in Settings, Agents
not_found The window, app or recording is gone; the fix lists what exists
disk_full Free some space; Bingsu needs 1 GB
busy Stop a recording, or start with queue: true
not_yours Leave the id out to act on your own recording

Uninstall

  1. Quit Bingsu from its menu.
  2. Drag Bingsu from Applications to the Trash.
  3. Remove the command: rm ~/.local/bin/bingsu
  4. Remove it from your agents, for example claude mcp remove bingsu.

Your recordings stay in ~/Movies/Bingsu until you delete them.

Next time, show it.

Record it once and send a link. Or let your agent do the recording.
